UNDERWATER CREATURES (ART SHOW) SEPT 18TH BERKELEY
Chris Granillo's Underwater Creatures
Our next exhibit begins on September 18th. Chris's work might be whimsically described as "Jacque Cousteau meets Salvador Dali"- this incredibly imaginative and technically accomplished work is a refreshing change for the gallery and we think Chris is headed toward great things. Here's a chance for a small gallery and amateur collectors to appreciate his works before they get snatched up by the big collectors. In addition to Chris's paintings we'll also display a sculpture installation by Luis Noe. Please join us for a reception for the exhibit on Saturday September 18th from 7 o'clock to 9. The exhibition will end on November 12th so if you can't make the reception come by and see us before it's too late.........SEPT 18TH 2010 7PM-9PMNIELSON ARTS 1537 Solano Ave, Berkeley, CA

36th Annual Solano Stroll "A Global A-Faire Berkeley,CA
36th Annual Solano Stroll "A Global A-Faire"
26 blocks of free fun!
Since 1974, The Merchants, Restaurants, and Professionals, as well as the twin cities of Albany and Berkeley CA, have hosted the Solano Avenue Stroll, the East Bay’s largest street festival! The Solano Avenue Merchants Association invites you to come and see what makes Solano Avenue such a wonderful place.
Over five hundred vendors, non-profit organizations, food booths and entertainers
Participants and the event guests visit from everywhere throughout California; as well as neighboring states from Nevada to Maine.
The fun begins at 10 am with the opening of Solano Avenue businesses and Stroll booths and the kick-off is the theme parade with about 100 groups.
After the parade, you can visit one of 75 entertainers, 50 food booths, 150 juried arts and crafters, games, wacky art cars, and almost 200 community non-profit and government organizations, not to mention the unique and popular professional services, restaurants, and shops already here on Solano Avenue.
You will hear the best in local music, dance and other performances and absolutely stunning costumes from all over the globe!
This is a family event! We feature a special area set aside just for kids that offer giant slides, carnival games, clowns, jugglers, stilt walkers, face painters, magicians, and maybe even wizards and elves -- come and see for yourselves...
Stop by the "Green Zone" on the east end of Solano Avenue where you can find tips about simple changes you can make at your home or business to reduce global warming, displays of green technology -- such as solar panels, tank-less water heaters and current composting techniques, and environmental experts ready to answer your questions about what you can do to check climate change.
Come join us for an afternoon in the sun, brought to you by the Cities of Albany and Berkeley; and with the help of our generous sponsors, SAA members, and volunteer board of directors

THE FARMERS BLOCK :JUNE 5TH DAY TIME EVENT A Farmers Market 2.0
The Farmers Block is a gathering fusing local farmers and health foods with local artists and musicians for an all inclusive market unique to San Francisco. All community based and supported.
Indie artists, musicians, and farmers need the support of their community to flourish. San Francisco is internationally renowned for unique arts and culture, due mostly to our continued devotion to supporting this value. People are showing an increasing interest in sustainable foods that are seasonable and obtained locally. This market itself is a hybrid, bringing together arts, music and foodie cultures with an emphasis on our local uniqueness. By creating a network and event for local purveyors to mix and exist together, we strengthen our city.
Our mission is to combine local forces and engage the public's awareness with an all new type of market. Whether you are local or a tourist you will learn of many up-and-coming businesses, farms, artists, craftsmen, musicians, and homemade health foods. This event will give lots of exposure to these businesses in a earth-friendly fashion, and will complete a model for a brand new way of conscious shopping that lines up with the growing knowledge of sustainable living.

Mad World: Messages to the Future, an exhibition featuring work by fourteen artists’ that imagine the future in 40 years through a fictional history of objects. In considering work for the exhibition, artists’ were asked ponder the statement, ‘If you’re interested in the future, Invent it.” Responses range from both the artistic representation of objects 40 years from now, to witty and thoughtful statements about our cultural evolution. Through works such as future almanac entries, nomad friendly furniture and functional objects made from discarded material, the exhibition will display a unique imagining of what’s to come.
Last year, GalerĂa organized an exhibition entitled Strange Hope in response to the ambivalent feelings of expectation and despair brought on by the inauguration of the Obama era and the simultaneous downfall of the economy. One year later, with the world in worse shape than ever before, we invited artists to think beyond the troubling times and instead summon a creative visioning of the future.
Mad World: Messages to the Future paves the way for GalerĂa’s 40th anniversary season. The exhibition will include an interactive component in which the public will be invited to share their thoughts, desires, and aspirations of GalerĂa in 40 years. Entries will be included in a catalog as a ‘time capsule,’ which will then be preserved in GalerĂa’s archive at the California Ethnic and Multicultural Archives at UC Santa Barbara.

“NATHANIEL ERAS” Born in the central valley (in the farm town known as Fresno) Eras eventually migrated to San Francisco in 2000, where he began working with various local acts. While living in Oakland, Eras teamed up with electronic auteur William Marshall (a.k.a. Octavius) for the 2003 release, Audio Noir. The project received unexpected acclaim from leading independent music publications such as XLR8R, URB and The Wire, as well as a nomination for Hip-Hop Album of The Year by the L.A Weekly in 2004. But that, as they say, was just the beginning. From there Eras produced Autonomous Objects, an E.P. sponsored by B.E.A.R. that was available exclusively as a digital release. Music from Eras’ catalog (including the aforementioned EP) went on to be featured in such programs as MTV2’s Nike Battle Grounds as well as a television campaign for SV Vodka and a digital campaign for KEDS shoes. While all of these accomplishments were impressive enough, mostly, they served as a signposts on the road to Eras’ latest project, Unearthed. For Unearthed, Eras has constructed an entire reinterpretation of Nosferatu, the 1922 silent film classic. For the piece, Eras masterfully employed dark synth phrases and distorted melodies over augmented drum breaks, all while evoking both tension and mystery. Unearthed is now released by the Track Numbers label . Without question, it should serve
